Rite then guys, i have reached my first dillema , and need a little advice.
It's not a major problem and not too urgent, i just need your opinions on my plan.
so, about three of my plants have become quite leggy and are being propped up by sticks, i was just wondering what to do. I was thinking to very carefully digging up the plants making a bigger hole in the same pot and planting it back in deeper in the soil. I know this may damage the roots though. The soil in the pots is pretty much at the top so i haven't got much space to put more in, and the pots are 2 litres so they're quite big for seedlings.
any advice or solutions welcome.
Cheers
If it was me, i wouldn't take them out or you could stress them and break there new roots. I would wait for a week and then repot them into bigger pot's with new soil and plant them down deeper. As your growing outside, if we get any sun they should stop the stretching.
This is why its usually best to start off with small pots and work your way up. That way if they do stretch you can plant them down deeper like you say when you repot them.
Try and have your plants where they can get a gentle breeze blowing them. That will help big time.
sweet mate good progress!
thanx alot guys, looks like i'll repot in a week or so and get them a bit deeper down.
I would let them have a gentle breeze, but the winds in my area are crazy, the three i left out in the open are the ones that have stretched, but i'll wait till there abit bigger and i'll let em have a bit of wind. Ive got plastic bottle tops over the top of them atm to keep the humidity up and to protect them from the harsh elements were getting and they seem to be doing fine.
I'll post up some more piccys tomorrow.
I would remove the bottle tops mate, as the breeze will help strengthen the stem and stop them from falling over.
Have you got them facing south for max light?
Not alot at the moment im afraid.Originally Posted by slim_tim
